1921: Fourth interstate championship series takes place in Perth. Western Australia defeat South Australia and the VFL, latter for first ever time, to emerge undefeated champions in three team competition. WAFL introduce Sandover Medal to be awarded on same lines as SAFL's Magarey Medal. First winner: Tom Outridge (Subiaco). Dan Moriarty (South Adelaide) becomes first and to date only player to win three consecutive Magarey Medals. Glenelg enter SAFL bringing total number of teams in competition to 8.  North Melbourne (VFA) withdraw from competition after 8 rounds in failed bid to gain admission to VFL. 1923: New South Wales defeat VFL for first ever time, 15.11 (101) to 13.19 (97) in Sydney. VFL grand final postponed owing to flooding of Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). East Perth 9.9 (63) defeat East Fremantle 7.4 (46) to clinch fifth WAFL premiership in row.  Instigation by the VFA of an annual best and fairest player award, the Woodham Cup, forerunner of the Recorder Cup and Liston Trophy. 1924: The VFL win fifth Australian interstate championship series, held in Hobart. Footscray (VFA premiers) 9.10 (64) defeat Essendon (VFL premiers) 4.12 (36) in end of  season challenge match at MCG. VFL finals series conducted on round robin basis for second and last time. First Brownlow Medal for best and fairest player in VFL won by Edward 'Carji' Greeves of Geelong. In Canberra, Federal Territory Australian Rules Football League (FTARFL) formed with Acton 10.7 (67) defeating Canberra 6.6 (42) to claim inaugural premiership.  Western Australian State Premiership contested for the last ever time.  Name of VFA best and fairest player award changed from Woodham Cup to Recorder Cup.
