1945 to 1950

1945: All states and territories except the Northern Territory resume full scale competitions. Two reserve players per team permitted. TANFL is reorganised as a district football competition, with two clubs - North Hobart and New Town - surviving from pre-War days, and two new clubs, Hobart and Sandy Bay. North Hobart win fifth consecutive premiership (allowing for break for War) after a 10.17 (77) to 7.5 (47) grand final defeat of Sandy Bay and follow this up by downing Launceston 12.12 (84) to 11.11 (77) to claim a record 4th successive state flag.  WANFL introduce the Simpson Medal; East Fremantle's Alan Ebbs is the first winner after Old Easts' derby grand final victory.  VFA's best and fairest player trophy, the Recorder Cup, re-named the Liston Cup. 1946: NTFL resumes although, given that its competition runs over the spring and summer months, its first post-war grand final will not take place until 1947.   Essendon-Collingwood VFL 2nd semi final drawn; Essendon win replay. 1947: The VFL win tenth Australian interstate championships series, held in Hobart, despite losing to Western Australia; the Western Australians themselves lose to South Australia and competition ends in three way tie on points, with Victoria's superior percentage clinching title.  A 'B' division, contested by host state Tasmania, together with New South Wales, Canberra and Queensland, is won by the Tasmanians. 1948: Melbourne 10.9 (69) draw with Essendon 7.27 (69) in VFL grand final. Replay sees Melbourne 13.11 (89) defeat Essendon 7.8 (50).
