1956: The VFL win thirteenth Australian interstate championship series, held in Perth. VFL introduces night competition, contested after home and away rounds by eight non-finalists. South Melbourne 13.16 (94) defeat Carlton 13.10 (88) in first final. VFL grand final sees Melbourne 17.19 (121) defeat Collingwood 6.12 (48) before Australian record 115,802 spectators. Williamstown 14.18 (102) defeat Port Melbourne 10.18 (78) to win third VFA premiership in succession. Queanbeyan-Acton (ACTAFL): played 17, won 17 - undefeated premiers. 1957: Port Adelaide 15.15 (105) defeat Norwood 13.16 (94) to clinch fourth consecutive premiership. Record SANFL grand final crowd of 58,924 is in attendance. Melbourne 17.14 (116) defeat Essendon 7.13 (55) to register third VFL flag in succession. Eastlake (ACTAFL) win 16 and draw 1 of their 17 matches played for season to record unbeaten premiership. 1958: The VFL win section one of centenary interstate carnival in Melbourne, their eleventh victory from thirteen attempts. Section two, held for third time, is won for third time by Australian Amateurs. Record VFL home and away crowd of 99,346 sees Melbourne defeat Collingwood at MCG on 15 June. Collingwood gain revenge in grand final, winning 12.10 (82) to 9.10 (64), thereby preventing Melbourne from equalling their own VFL record four premierships in a row. Port Adelaide win fifth successive SANFL premiership. VFA grand final ends in tie: Williamstown 6.15 (51), Moorabbin 7.9 (51). 1959: Eastern Suburbs defeat Newtown 14.11 (95) to 7.11 (53) in NSWANFL grand final to record Australian record 7th consecutive flag. Port Adelaide 13.9 (87) defeat West Adelaide 11.11 (77) for 6th successive SANFL premiership. Len Fitzgerald (Sturt) wins third Magarey MedalEast Perth 12.19 (91) defeat Subiaco 9.14 (68) before record WANFL grand final attendance of 45,245. VFA reduces number of players in a team from 18 to 16.  Prahran expelled from VFA after it lost sole occupancy of its ground at Toorak Park.  Sunshine admitted to VFA as Two Blues' replacement.  Seventh AAFC interstate carnival won by Victoria in Perth. 1960: Section two of Australian interstate championships held in Sydney and Canberra and won by VFA.  Melbourne 8.14 (62) defeat Collingwood 2.2 (14) for 5th VFL premiership in six seasons. South Australia inflict the VFL's heaviest interstate match defeat to date, winning by 69 points in Adelaide, 14.15 (99) to 3.12 (30). Tasmania 13.13 (91) defeat the VFL 12.12 (84) in Launceston [See GREAT GAMES section]- first time the Big V has lost to Tasmania. Eastlake 20.15 (135) defeat Ainslie 9.9 (63) in CANFL grand final to secure second unbeaten premiership in four seasons.  Prahran readmitted to VFA which now comprises 17 clubs.  VFA implements a final six.  First VFA Sunday fixture, Brunswick versus Coburg, watched by 17,000.
