Coach: John Todd (East Fremantle) - Although this is the first time he has taken the reins of the Western Australian team as coach, 37 year old John Todd (pictured in the centre of the above photograph, celebrating East Fremantle's 1974 premiership win) is certainly no stranger to interstate football as he was a top centreline player with Western Australia for many years.
Todd is regarded as a very controversial figure in Western Australia and also a great tactician, so it should be a battle of wits between he and Nicholls.
The successful coach of WANFL premiers last year, East Fremantle, Todd played for many years with that club's arch rival, South Fremantle, before a knee injury cut short a brilliant career. John won the Sandover Medal in his first season as a League player at the age of 17 in 1955.

| 15 | Tony Morley (South Fremantle) |
24 | 178cm | 72kg | Half forward flanker. Great mover who is in top form if that shown in recent club games is any indication. Takes a good mark for his inches and although playing in his first state game today will be hard to hold if given any latitude. |
| 17 | Max George (Swan Districts) | 23 | 188cm | 92kg | Full forward. High flying and swift moving type who won the WA League goal kicking award last year with 89 goals. 28 | 198cm | 92kg | Has responded magnificently to the extra responsibility this year caused by the loss of Mike Fitzpatrick to Carlton. Enjoying his best season in WA football, but he may lack the strength to keep out his Victorian rivals. |
