1991: Queensland 23.14 (152) defeat Victoria 15.18 (108) at the Gabba - first ever win by Queensland over Victoria. AFL introduce final six. Adelaide enter AFL. West Coast become first non-Victorian club to reach AFL grand final, losing by 53 points to Hawthorn. Irishman Jim Stynes becomes first non-Australian to win Brownlow Medal. Hawthorn's Michael Tuck retires after VFL/AFL career record 426 games. SANFL reduced to nine clubs following merger of Woodville and West Torrens to form Woodville-West Torrens Football Club bearing Eagles emblem.  Name of WASFL reverts to WAFL and final five system introduced. Camberwell withdraw from VFA prior to start of season, and Brunswick-Broadmeadows follow suit after 3 playing matches.  Nineteenth AAFC interstate carnival held in Perth; won by Western Australia for first ever time. 1992: Geelong kick AFL record score of 37.17 (239) versus Brisbane in round 7. West Coast become first non-Victorian AFL premiers.  VFA reverts to 18 players a side for the first time since 1958. 1993: Australian interstate championships held for first time since 1988; final sees South Australia 16.13 (109) defeat Victoria 14.13 (97) at MCG to retain title. Essendon secure 'double' of AFL premiership and pre-season Fosters Cup, as well as providing Brownlow Medallist in shape of Gavin Wanganeen. Woodville-West Torrens 17.20 (122) defeat Norwood 7.7 (49) for club's first SANFL flag in only third ever season.  VFA club Dandenong has its licence revoked because of insolvency.  It promptly reforms under the name Dandenong Redlegs. West Coast host two home finals, the first AFL finals to be held outside Victoria.  Twentieth and last AAFC Carnival held, in Melbourne; Victoria is successful for the 14th time. 1995: Fremantle enter the AFL. Central District (SANFL) contest grand final for first ever time, but lose to Port Adelaide.  Last ever VFA competition is contested by just 9 clubs following withdrawal of Dandenong, Oakleigh and Prahran. 1996: AAFC disbands.  Port Adelaide win third consecutive SANFL premiership. Formation of the Victorian Football League (VFL), an ostensible continuation of the VFA which would be more properly described as de facto a second eighteen competition for the AFL's Victorian clubs.  QAFL goes into receivership.  Grand final results - AFL: North Melbourne 19.17 (131) d.
