This team consists entirely of footballers whose careers occurred fully or predominantly during the nineteenth century, which is taken to mean the period of time between 1 January 1801 and 31 December 1900. In keeping with the laws of the game that operated for much of the 19th century, the team comprises twenty players including a five man ruck division, and no reserves. Coaching duties are assumed to be the responsibility of the team captain, as they would have been at the time.
