A powerful, strong marking player, Jim Richardson was without doubt one of the greatest centre half backs produced in the ACT. A member of Eastlake premiership sides in 1972, 1976 and 1978, Richardson was also a regular ACT representative player at a time when the standard of the team's performances was improving steadily. In 1999 he was selected on a half back flank in the official 'ACT Legends' team which was chosen to commemorate 75 years of organised Australian football in the nation's capital. |

Interchange - Robert Neill (Southern District, Sydney, St Kilda, Norwood) |
|
|
|
After
joining Sydney from Southern
District in Canberra, Robert Neill enjoyed a promising initial AFL
season in 1994 when he played 15 games, mainly on the half back line, and
booted 8 goals. The following year, however, nothing went right, and
in 1996 he found himself on the move to St
Kilda, where he quickly picked up the threads of his career and proved
himself a real asset in a rapidly improving side. Unfortunately, the
1997 season saw him beset by injuries and poor form to the extent that he
managed just 3 senior games for the year, and ended up being delisted.
Resurrection this time came at the Parade with Norwood, for whom Neill has proved himself an accomplished and versatile performer, starring in defence in the 1999 grand final against Port Adelaide, for example, and topping the club's goal kicking list with 53 majors in 2003. |

Arguably
the greatest player in the history of the Tuggeranong
Football Club, Robert Hughes represented the club - which was
originally known as Sutherland - right from the outset of its involvement
in the ACTAFL in 1979. Despite the fact that Sutherland finished 2nd
last in its debut season, Hughes demonstrated emphatically that he was a
new star in the making by finishing as runner up in the Mulrooney
Medal. He also won the Sutherland best and fairest award,
the first of three in succession, and six in total, he would land.
Described by Ron Fowlie as "a gifted and dedicated player who toughed it out in the club's hard days", Robert Hughes finally tasted the ultimate success in 1986 when Tuggeranong scored a thrilling 1 point grand final win over Queanbeyan. This remains the clubs only senior premiership win. The esteem in which he is regarded in ACT football circles was clearly demonstrated in 1999 when he was included in the official 'ACT Legends' team chosen to commemorate 75 years of football in the territory. |

A
talented and versatile player, Ian Low represented Canberra and was a
member of Manuka's 1973 and 1974 premiership sides before transferring to
VFL club Footscray in 1975.
After a slow start to his 5 season stint with the Bulldogs, Low proved
himself a more than handy acquisition, playing mainly on a wing or the
half forward line. He was a member of Footscray's losing elimination
final team against Geelong in 1976, and was
also in the side when the Bulldogs kicked their highest ever VFL score of
33.15 (213) against St Kilda two years later.
In 1980, Low transferred to Collingwood, where he played another 11 games in what proved to be his last VFL season, taking his overall total to 78. He also booted 77 goals. |

| Despite being a late convert to the sport of Australian football, Steve Vizy developed into one of Queanbeyan's, and the ACT's, finest ever players, amassing a total of 223 first grade appearances which included participation in no fewer than half a dozen senior premiership teams. The 1997 Mulrooney Medallist and 104.7 Player of the Year was renowned for his great enthusiasm, energy and commitment, and represented the ACT on numerous occasions. Early in his career his services were keenly sought by North Melbourne, but he elected to remain at home. He is a life member of the Queanbeyan Tigers, and is included in the club's Wall of Fame. | |
