The Aberfeldie Sports Club arose out of the Aberfeldie Community Centre, which was formed in 1944. The Sports Club boasts both football and cricket sections, with the former so far producing open age premiership-winning teams in A grade in 1974, as well as on four occasions in B grade. A total of three reserves premierships have also been won, while the club's under eighteens have been a dominant force in the competition since the turn of the century. The club's most recent senior flag was won in B Grade in 1995 when, under the coaching of John Ford, the team's dominance was such that it lost just one match for the year. The club is immensely proud of its history, and in May 2005 inducted its first two official Legends in Jack Chalmers and Brian Sully. One of Aberfeldie's most noteworthy playing products was Bob Shearman who, having won the F.H. Woods Medal for best and fairest in the EDFL's under seventeens competition in 1955, embarked on an illustrious senior career with Essendon, West Torrens and Sturt. Coached by former Carlton, Sydney, Hawthorn and Western Bulldogs player Simon Minton-Connell, Aberfeldie won 6 out of 18 matches in 2006 to finish in 7th place in the 10 team A Grade competition. A year later, under new coach Geoff Kinniburgh, the side endured a difficult season which produced just 4 wins and saw it tumble to 9th place. Where now? or |
