BIRDWOOD

Current Affiliation:  Hills Football League (HFL) since 1967

Colours:  Red and white

Emblem:  Roosters

Senior A Grade HFL Premierships:  2nd/Country Division - 1973, 1975-6-7, 1992, 1994 (4 total)

The town of Birdwood was originally known as Blumberg, but altered its name during the 1st World War owing to anti-German sentiment.  Unlike many other such towns it did not revert to its original name once these feelings had abated.

Birdwood Football Club was a founder member in 1921 of the Torrens Valley Football Association, where it competed until the Hills Football League was formed in 1967.  As one of the smaller towns in the HFL's catchment area, which takes in the Hills, Mount Lofty and Torrens Valley regions, Birdwood has spent much of its time competition's lower tier, where its record of 6 A Grade premierships is unsurpassed.  In 2007, however, the Roosters are competing in the top tier competition, the Central Division.
