Cerberus competed initially in the West Gippsland Latrobe Football League, but after going through the entire 2003 without winning a game transferred to division three of the southern football league in which it has continued to compete since. The club is based outside the town of Crib Point, which boasts a population of 2,000. It draws its players from the Cerberus naval base on Westernport Bay.
