The Croydon Football Club was established in 1906, and competed initially in the Box Hill Reporter District Football League. The club fielded particularly strong teams between the wars and in the first few seasons after World War Two, claiming a total of five senior flags in four different competitions during that time.

In 1962 the Blues, having won the Croydon-Ferntree Gully Football League division one premiership two years earlier, were founder members of the Eastern Districts Football League. At first, the club competed in division one, with the seniors achieving a grand final appearance at that level in 1965. East Burwood proved too strong on that occasion, winning by more than 10 goals, and this remains the closest Croydon has come to claiming a premiership in the top division of the league.

The club's two senior flags to date have both been won in division two, in 1971 at the expense of Bayswater, and in 1997 against Mooroolbark. Meanwhile the reserves have won premierships in division one in 1973, and division two in 1989 and 1991.

Croydon is currently a division one club.
