Curra Swans was formed in 1990 through a merger between the Currajong Blues and South Townsville Swans, both of which had been successful members of the Townsville competition for many years.
Since the turn of the century, the Swans have regularly qualified for the finals, but runners-up in 2001 was the closest they have come to adding to their tally of three senior premierships.
