After finishing sixth in first division (known at the time as A Grade) on debut it gradually improved and between 1939 and 1941 claimed a hat trick of premierships, a feat it has never since come close to replicating. Indeed, the club’s only other first division flag was won in 1994. It also enjoyed success in second division in 1983. Recent seasons have seen the Lions competing in second division, reaching a grand final in 2004 which was lost to Altona. In 2008 they narrowly failed to qualify for the finals, finishing sixth after winning 8 of their 17 matches, 1 fewer than elimination final qualifiers Parkside and Coburg Districts. The 2009 season brought massive improvement and with it the club's second division two flag, procured by means of a 16.12 (108) to 13.9 (87) grand final defeat of Parkside. Where now? or
