The early phase of East Ringwood’s history, from the club’s formation in 1928 through to the early war years, was spent in the Ringwood District Football League in which it struggled for many seasons before annexing a first flag in 1941. After the war the RDFL became known as the Croydon Mail Football League, with East Ringwood enjoying a second flag triumph in 1947.

Between 1950 and 1956 the club’s senior team was coached by Fred Cook who masterminded successive premierships in 1953 and 1954 in a competition now named the Croydon Ferntree Gully Football League. Further flags in this competition followed in 1957 and 1961 before East Ringwood became a foundation member in 1962 of the Eastern District Football League.

Most of the Kangaroos’ time in the E(D)FL has been spent in division one, with grand final victories coming their way in 1966 at the expense of East Burwood, 1984 against Mitcham, and most recently in 2002 versus East Burwood once more. There were also losing division one grand final appearances in 1962, 1964, 1977, 1983, 1986, 1987, 1988, 1990, 1993, 1997 and 2001. The ‘Roos’ sole division two success came in 1974 when they accounted for Ringwood in the grand final by 8 points.

East Ringwood’s reserves have a particularly fine record in the E(D)FL having claimed division one premierships in 1963, 1975-6-7-8, 1980, 1985-6, 1988, 1990, 1994, 1999 and 2002.
