ECHUCA UNITED
Current Affiliation: Murray Football League (MFL) since 1997 Club Address: P.O. Box 368, Echuca, Victoria 3564 Formed: 1994, through the merger of Echuca East and Echuca South Football Clubs Colours: Blue and gold Emblem: Eagles Senior Premierships: Nil Produced as a result of a merger between Echuca East and Echuca South, Echuca United originally boasted brown and gold, Hawthorn-style playing apparel, and the nickname of the Hawks. A member of the Northern and Echuca Football League from 1994 until the competition disbanded at the end of the 1996 season, the club has since 1997 competed in the Murray Football League. The 1997 season also brought a change of colours, to blue and gold, and of emblem, to the Eagles. Over the past few seasons the club has undergone a marked growth in strength followed by a sudden, sharp decline. In 2004, the seniors managed just 3 wins from 18 matches to finish 10th (of 11). There was marginal improvement during a 2005 season that produced 6 wins and a draw, and saw the team jump two places on the ladder. In 2006 the Eagles reached their first grand final, only to lose to Nathalia by 49 points. The following season brought a marginal decline as they bowed out of the premiership race at the first semi final stage, while in 2008 their form nosedived and a tally of 4 wins from 18 matches was only good enough for an eleventh place finish in what is now a thirteen team competition..
