The club has been a member since 1966 of the Yarra Valley District Mountain Football League, which was formed that year by the union of the Mountain District Football League, where Emerald had spent the previous four decades, winning a total of five senior flags, and the Yarra Valley Football Association. Emerald's three most recent senior premierships have come in the YVMDFL's division two competition, where the club has spent the majority of its time since 1978.
