The Bombers have a history stretching back more than a century which has seen them produce many fine players and claim numerous premierships at various levels.  The club has been a member since 1966 of the Yarra Valley District Mountain Football League, which was formed that year by the union of the Mountain District Football League, where Emerald had spent the previous four decades, winning a total of five senior flags, and the Yarra Valley Football Association.

Emerald's three most recent senior premierships have come in the YVMDFL's division two competition, where the club has spent the majority of its time since 1978.  The 1983 and 1997 triumphs were especially noteworthy in that the club's reserves also went top.
