Formed:  1982, as part of a comprehensive restructuring of football in the Riverina, whereby the three senior competitions in the area (the South Western District Football League, the Farrer Football League and the Central Riverina Football League) were replaced by the Riverina Football League and the Riverina District Football League (which became the Farrer Football League in 1985).  Between 1983 and 1994 the league operated a two division system.

Name History:  1982-4 Riverina District Football League; 1985-present Farrer Football League.  An earlier competition bearing the name 'Farrer Football League' had been in existence between 1930 and 1981.
