Over the past three and a half decades the Stonecats have enjoyed an enviable record, having claimed a total of eight senior grade flags. The first of these came in 1974, in the Nepean Football League, when they accounted for Karingal in the grand final by 69 points, 18.21 (129) to 9.6 (60). A year later their victims on grand final day were Pines, with the Stonecats triumphing on this occasion by 45 points, 16.22 (118) to 10.13 (73). In 1976 they again qualified for the grand final but they were unable to make it a hat trick of premierships as Pines proved superior on the day, gaining revenge for the previous year’s defeat by a margin of 18 points. Frankston YCW’s fourth and last Nepean Football League grand final appearance came in 1979, but resulted in defeat at the hands of Bonbeach.

The 1987 season saw the Nepean Football League merging with the Mornington Peninsula Football League, and the Stonecats found themselves competing in division two of the new competition. After three seasons at that level they achieved promotion to division one courtesy of a 24.8 (152) to 14.7 (91) grand final trouncing of Karingal. They have continued to compete in the MPNFL’s elite division ever since, and their record of five senior grade premierships is unsurpassed.

The Stonecats’ first division one grand final appearance was in 1991, and resulted in a 23 point defeat of Pines. This proved to be the first of three successive grand final victories, a feat never achieved either before or since in the competition’s history. The other flags were both procured at the expense of Chelsea, by margins of 79 points in 1992 and 36 points the following year. In 1994 the Stonecats made it four straight grand final appearances but were comprehensively defeated by Pines.

Frankston YCW’s next flag in 1997 came after the closest and hardest fought grand final in the club’s history. Final scores were the Stonecats 10.10 (70) defeated Mornington 9.13 (67).

Since the turn of the century the seniors have qualified for three more grand finals, downing Mornington by 55 points in 2003, and losing to Mount Eliza in 2005 and to Seaford in 2007. In 2008 the Stonecats qualified for the finals in fourth place before losing the first semi final to Seaford by 7 goals. There was still some cause for celebration, however, as the under eighteens went top after defeating Mornington in the grand final by 2 points.
