Glenroy has been a highly respected and successful member of the Essendon District Football League since 1946.  The club won a senior B Grade flag in its fourth season, and has added at least one senior premiership in every decade since, with the 1980s proving particularly profitable.

Recent seasons have seen Glenroy competing in B Grade.  In 2006, the side won 11 of its 17 matches to finish 6th, while in 2007 it reached the finals, ultimately finishing 5th. The reserves did rather better in 2007, getting as far as the grand final where they lost to Maribrynong Park.
