After leaving the MAFA Hawthorn joined the VFA before being admitted to the VFL in 1925. The club's best finishing position during its MJFA/MAFA phase was 3rd in 1907. In 1954 another club bearing the name of Hawthorn was admitted to the VAFA when the competition added a fifth section. This club lasted just four seasons. The current Hawthorn Amateur Football Club began life in the South East Suburban Football League and has been a member of the VAFA since 1995. It won a F Grade flag in its fourth season, downing Monash Gryphons in the grand final by 21 points, 16.7 (103) to 12.10 (82). To date, this is the only senior VAFA premiership the club has won. In 2006, coached by Peter Tyson, Hawthorn reached the D4 Section grand final, losing by 58 points to Power House. The side performed well in D3 Grade, winning 11 and drawing 1 of its 18 home and away matches to qualify for the finals in 2nd place. However, it failed to secure promotion after losing the 2nd semi final to Hawthorn by 76 points, and the preliminary final to Ivanhoe Assumption by 44 points. Where now? or |
