Jacana has only been involved in the Essendon District Football League since 2001, but prior to that the club enjoyed considerable success, at both senior and junior level, in a variety of competitions. Its three senior premierships were won in 1967, 1980 and most recently in the Riddell District Football League in 2000. Since crossing to the EDFL the seniors have competed in B Grade, with their best season coming in 2004, when they failed to qualify for the finals only on percentage. By comparison, the 2006 season was eminently forgettable, as the Jaguars managed just 1 win from 17 matches for the year to end up with the wooden spoon. They improved slightly in 2007, winning twice in 16 games to climb to 12th place out of 14 clubs. Jacana's record of producing high quality V/AFL footballers is little short of incredible. In the 1960s there was Rod Dell (North Melbourne), Ken Hill (North Melbourne) and Bruce Doull (Carlton). The seventies spawned the North Melbourne duo of Glen Joseph and Brian Hall, plus Shane Zantuck (North, South, and Melbourne), while the eighties produced Peter Smith (North and Brisbane), Ross Smith (North), José Romero (North and Footscray), and Scott Wynd (Footscray). More recently, Chris Johnson joined Fitzroy from Jacana in 1994, before going on to become a dual premiership player with Brisbane. Between them these eleven players amassed in excess of 1,200 games of V/AFL football, half a dozen club champion awards, a Brownlow Medal, and membership of two official club 'Teams of the Century'.
