Between 1980 and 1985 the club was in E Grade but it spent its final four seasons in D Grade after achieving promotion as a losing grand finalist. The club’s official colours during its time in the ESCFA were brown and gold, but they were changed to black and red after it commenced in the Eastern District Football League in 1989. Over the past two decades the Falcons have progressed slowly but steadily through the divisions. They won the premiership of division four in only their third season when they overcame the grand final challenge of Heathmont by 19 points. The ensuing nine seasons were spent in division three from which they finally escaped, at what was in effect their third attempt, in 1999. In both 1997 and 1999 the Falcons had reached the division three grand final, only to lose, and unlike in the ESCFA only the premiers of the division achieved promotion. They finally made their escape in 2000 after a 15.9 (99) to 15.7 (97) grand final defeat of Templestowe. The Falcons’ stay in division two was briefer than their time in the division below, but only by one season. After a number of near misses they claimed promotion in 2007 thanks to a hard fought 6 point grand final victory over South Croydon. Their debut season in the top flight was a creditable one as they managed 8 wins to finish comfortably clear of relegation trouble. Knox’s reserves won a division two flag in 2004, and a hat trick of division three premierships between 1998 and 2000, while the colts finished top of division one in 2008, division two in 1993 and 2005-6-7, and division three in 1997.
