Lancaster has been a stalwart and successful member of the Kyabram District Football Association (later League) since the competition was established in 1932. Prior to joining the KDFA the club had competed in the Kyabram District Junior Football Association from about 1910 until the competition disbanded after the 1929 season. Lancaster won at least two KDJFA premierships, with the possibility of there having been more as complete records for the competition are not extant.

The Wombats commenced their time in the KDFA in ideal fashion by claiming the competition’s inaugural flag. However, it would then be almost half a century before the club again tasted senior grade premiership success. Since winning its second KDFA flag in 1980 Lancaster has been a consistent competition front runner, and the club’s overall tally of half a dozen senior grade premierships compares well with the majority of its rivals in what has always been a highly competitive league.

Since the KDFL commenced its reserve grade competition in 1967 the Wombats have contested a total of fifteen grand finals at that level, from seven of which they emerged victorious. In the juniors, introduced in 1970, its record is four premierships from seven grand finals.
