In twelve seasons as an autonomous organisation the club finished last six times, a result it repeated in its final season in the competition, after it merged with Bankstown. It never managed to qualify for the finals, although it came close in 1957, when it finished 5th. In 1963, Liverpool combined with Bankstown and the following year Liverpool-Bankstown joined with Paramatta to form the Southern Districts Football Club. This club competed without success in the NSWAFL until 1980 when it was re-named the Liverpool Football Club. Two further wooden spoons followed before the club was demoted to the Sydney Football Association where it remained for fourteen years, winning Division Two premierships in 1987, 1988 and 1994. In 1996, Liverpool merged with Bankstown to form the South West Sydney Football Club, which competes to this day in the Sydney Football Association.
