Lucknow was a founder member in 1974 of the East Gippsland Football League and reached the competition's first grand final, only to lose to Orbost. Twelve months later the grand final result was repeated, as it was in 1979 when the two clubs met for a third time.

The Magpies' next grand final appearance did not arrive until 1993 when they finally broke through for a premiership with a 16.13 (109) to 9.12 (66) defeat of Wy Yung. Their only other senior flag was attained in 1997 in record breaking style as they ran up 24.17 (161), which remains the highest score kicked in an EGFL grand final. Opponents Lindenow could only manage 11.7 (73).

The boot was firmly on the other foot when the Magpies made their next, and most recent, grand final appearance in 2001 as they went down to a powerful Bairnsdale combination by 92 points.
