A Macedon Football Club was competing in the Gisborne District Football Association as early as the first decade of the twentieth century. Complete records from this competition are not extant, but it is known that the club claimed at least one premiership after accounting for Sunbury by 8 points in the 1907 grand final.

Much of Macedon’s history was spent competing in the Riddell District Football League but its overall record, measured in terms of winning premierships, was unremarkable. Its best season came in 1978 when it reached the division one grand final, only to lose to Gisborne. By the 1990s the club was in dire straits, and late in the 2000 season it went into recess. Three years later the club resumed, and if its on-field performances since have been undistinguished its off field achievement in recovering after seeming dead in the water warrants the highest commendation.
