Modewarre's involvement in organised competition stretches back at least as far as the early 1920s. In 1921, an early incarnation of the Modewarre Football Club reached the grand final of the Freshwater Creek District Football Association but failed to register a goal in going down by 28 points to Connewarre.

After World War Two Modewarre was a mainstay of the Geelong and District Football League for many years, claiming a number of senior premierships. The undoubted highlight of the club's existence to date came in 1979 when it claimed its only division one flag courtesy of a 12.16 (88) to 7.14 (56) grand final defeat of Corio.

Since crossing to the Bellarine Football League in 1996 the Warriors have generally struggled to make much impression and only twice, in 2001 and 2002, have the seniors managed to reach the finals.
