Originally established in the mid-1950s, Morphetville Park did not engage in competitive fixtures right away, but spent several seasons playing a combination of scratch matches and, in 1958, games against teams from the Glenelg South West Football League.  The GSWFL's A2 grade competition had an uneven number of teams that year, which meant that Morphetville Park always had at least one potential opponent each week throughout the season.

In 1959, the club finally commenced its competitive existence by fielding a team in A2 grade of the GSWFL, where it gradually gained strength before achieving promotion as premiers in 1963.  To the club's immense credit, its senior team would never experience the ignominy of relegation.

For the past two decades the 'Roos have competed in the Southern Football League where they have won 1 A Grade senior flag to date, while their division three side have gone top a record 5 times.

Perhaps the most noteworthy identity associated with Morphetville Park is Tony McGuinness, who played junior football with the club before embarking on a noteworthy V/AFL career with Footscray and Adelaide.
