Newtown was a well known and successful feature of the Geelong football landscape for almost sixty years. Formed in 1875, the club is known to have enjoyed premiership success on at least four occasions prior to its amalgamation with the similarly successful Chilwell Football Club in 1934. The merged club was christened Newtown-Chilwell and retained the Newtown colours of black and red.
