Box 536, Kallangur, Queensland 4503 Home Ground: O'Callaghan Park, Zillmere Road, Zillmere Formed: North Brisbane formed 1991 as a result of a merger between Sandgate and Windsor-Zillmere; Northern Eagles formed 1997; re-named Zillmere Eagles in 2005 Colours: Royal blue and white Emblem: Eagles Premierships: 1995 (1 total) Grogan Medallists: Cameron Buchanan 1991; Danny Dickfos 2000; Matty Payne 2006 (3 total) At the end of the 1990 season, Sandgate and Windsor-Zillmere underwent a marriage of convenience which spawned the North Brisbane Football Club. Combining elements of both merger partners' playing uniforms - red, derived from Sandgate, and blue from Windsor-Zillmere - and known as the Eagles, the fledgling was a success on the field, winning the 1995 QAFL premiership, but suffered from unstable administration. In 1996 it was forced to withdraw from the competition. In 1997 a new northern-based club, boasting the name of the Northern Eagles, emerged. Although yet to procure a premiership it has proved consistently competitive, and prior to a disappointing 7th place finish in 2007 had contested every finals series since its formation, reaching grand finals in 1999, 2000 and 2006. It has also produced a Grogan Medallist in the shape of former Windsor-Zillmere and Brisbane star, Danny Dickfos. Equally importantly, the club, now known as the Zillmere Eagles, appears to enjoy the financial and administrative stability that eluded its predecessor. Where now? or |
