The Grubbers as they are distinctively, and perhaps uniquely, known were a force in the competition from the start. They reached the grand final in 1972 and again in 1974, but succumbed on both occasions to Barwon Heads. The ensuing couple of decades saw the seniors consistently finishing in the top half but it was not until 1993 that they again contested a grand final, going down for a third time to Barwon Heads. This was a prelude to a sustained period of dominance unequalled in BFL history as the Grubbers qualified for an amazing twelve grand finals in succession, eight of which were won, making Ocean Grove the competition's most successful club. After three seasons in the comparative doldrums the Grubbers came close to another flag in 2007, losing a high standard, high scoring grand final to Newcomb Power. Where now? or |
