A combination of economic and demographic changes led to the amalgamation in 2003 of former Orbost-based arch rivals Orbost and Snowy Rovers, both of which had been mainstays of the East Gippsland Football League since the competition's inception twenty-nine years earlier.  The merged club was highly competitive at all levels from the start, with the first premiership being claimed by the under eighteens in 2005.  Twelve months later the reserves followed suit, while the seniors reached the grand final for the first time, but went down to Bairnsdale.

Prior to the merger Snowy Rovers enjoyed senior premiership success eight times, including twice at Orbost's expense.  The first of these premierships, in 1973, was won in the Gippsland Football League, and all the rest in the EGFL.  Meanwhile, Orbost's tally of sixteen senior flags comprised seven in the GFL and nine in the EGFL.

In 2007 the club's senior side won 6 out of 16 matches to finish fifth in a seven team competition, adrift of fourth placed Lakes Entrance only on percentage.  The reserves meanwhile had a similar season, but the under eighteens managed just 1 win to finish with the wooden spoon.
