In the 1980s, Padthaway was very much a pace-setter in the Kowree-Naracoorte Football League, but although the A Grade side qualified for the grand final on four occasions during the decade, it proved unable to 'bring home the bacon'. It finally did so in 1993, in what was the inaugural season of the Kowree-Naracoorte-Tatiara Football League, by seeing off the grand final challenge of Bordertown. The Lions again reached the grand final in 1994, but lost to Mundulla. Since then, however, their fortunes have gradually declined. In 2006 they finished mid-table with a 7-10 record.
