The Tasmanian Australian National Football League was re-organised as a district competition, and commenced with just 4 clubs: North Hobart , New Town, Sandy Bay, and Hobart.  North Hobart won first premiership.

Sandy Bay beat New Town and were crowned premiers.

New Norfolk and Clarence made their debuts in the league, and North Hobart won the premiership, beating Sandy Bay.

New Town and Glenorchy merged to become the Glenorchy District Football Club.  In their first year as the Glenorchy Magpies they were minor premiers, but lost the grand final to North Hobart.

The newly formed Glenorchy FC won its first premiership under the new name, beating Sandy Bay.

New Norfolk played in its first grand final, but was beaten by Hobart.

Clarence played in its first grand final against North Hobart and lost.

New Norfolk won its first grand final, beating North Hobart.

Clarence won its first grand final, beating New Norfolk.

Clarence became known as the Eagles.

New Norfolk, wearing red, white and black colours, were known as the Eagles.  Clarence wore maroon and white and were known as the Kangaroos (more commonly abbreviated as Roos).

The Tasmanian Australian National Football League changed its name to the Statewide Football League.  Participating clubs were Clarence, East Launceston who would debut, and merge part way into season with City-South becoming South Launceston FC, Glenorchy, Hobart, New Norfolk, North Hobart, North Launceston who made their debut and Sandy Bay. Glenorchy won the flag, which was their last premiership until 1999.

Burnie and Devonport would enter the league.  Burnie would be known as the Hawks, and Devonport would become the Blues.  Both teams had to change as there were teams in the league already using their original nicknames (Tigers for Burnie, and Magpies for Devonport). Glenorchy lost the grand final to arch rival North Hobart.

Devonport won its first premiership in the league, beating Glenorchy, which reached its third grand final in a row, losing for the second time in succession.

The reigning premiers Devonport failed to make the finals. North Hobart beat cross town rival Hobart in the grand final.

Hobart beat North Launceston which was playing in its first grand final.

North Launceston made the grand final again and faced North Hobart, but the result was the same as in 1990 as the Demons beat the Robins.

North Hobart made it back to back flags after beating Hobart .

Clarence won the flag and Launceston debuted as the Raiders.

Clarence again dominated the league, winning a second successive premiership.

North Launceston, playing under David Rhys-Jones, beat Clarence in the grand final.

Clarence beat Burnie who were playing in their first grand final.

Hobart, Launceston, South Launceston and Sandy Bay played their final seasons in the Statewide competition.  North Hobart changed its name to the Hobart Demons.

Sandy Bay,  resurrected as the Southern Cats, debuted.  New Norfolk changed its name to the Derwent Eagles. North Launceston won the flag, beating Clarence.

The Southern Cats folded mid-way through the season. North Launceston changed its name to the Northern Bombers. The Derwent Eagles played their final season in the TFL.  After being renamed the Derwent Hawks they entered the Southern Tasmanian Football League. The Magpies  beat the Northern Bombers in the grand final. The Tasmanian Football League became the Tasmanian State Football League.

The TSFL was renamed the Statewide Football League; this would be the final year of the Statewide competition. The grand final was moved from North Hobart for the first time ever, and was played at York Park, Launceston in front of a disappointing crowd. The Clarence Roos won the flag.   After the Statewide FL disbanded at the end of the season Clarence, Glenorchy and North Hobart all moved to the Southern FL, while Burnie, Devonport, and Northern Bombers went into the Northern Tasmanian FL.

Glenorchy and North Hobart were forced to change their colours.  Glenorchy became the Storm, and North Hobart added a light blue demon. Clarence dropped their nickname of the Roos and were known just as Clarence.

North Hobart adopted the blue and red Port Melbourne jumper.  Glenorchy won the rights to become known as the Magpies again. Lauderdale joined the league as the Bombers, replacing Sorell which went into recess. North Hobart beat Hobart for the premiership.
