ROBINA
Current Affiliation: AFL Queensland State Association (AFLQSA) Club Address: P.O. Box 3952, Robina, Queensland 4226 Home Ground: Scottsdale Drive Formed: 1995; commenced competition 1996 Colours: Blue and white Emblem: 'Roos Senior Premierships: South Queensland Football Association Division Two - 2004 (1 total); SQFA Division One - 2004 (1 total) The 'Roos were established in 1995 by a group of former Bentleigh Bombers members and players, and commenced competition the following year. At first they struggled to compete with longer established clubs such as Broadbeach and Labrador, but by the close of the century they were beginning to flex their muscles. The 1999 season brought finals qualification for the first time, with the 'Roos eventually finishing third. The early years of the new century were disappointing, but the appointment of former player Matthew Brick as senior coach in 2003 was the catalyst for a marked improvement. That very season saw Robina contesting its first ever senior grand final, only to perform poorly on the day and lose to Wynnum by more than 50 points. In 2004 the 'Roos again made it through to the grand final, this time against Ipswich. The first three quarters of the match were tense and tight, with the Eagles enjoying a 4 point advantage at the last change. During the final term, however, Robina found another gear, and rattled on 7.3 to 1.1 to win with unexpected comfort. For good measure, the club's reserves also went top. The seniors' victory earned them promotion to the SQFA's 2nd tier of competition, where they promptly established themselves as the team to beat by opening the 2005 season with twelve successive wins. Ultimately, it was to be Robina and Ipswich who would once again contest the premiership, with the outcome the same as in 2004, albeit that on this occasion the 'Roos' margin of victory would be even greater. On top right from the outset, they led at every change by 20, 32 and 62 points en route to an emphatic 22.11 (143) to 12.8 (80) triumph. Dillon Stephenson contributed an amazing 13 goals to Robina's tally. The 2007 season saw the 'Roos competing in Division One of AFL Queensland's State Association for the second straight season, but it was a year to forget as they managed just 4 wins from 18 games to end up with the wooden spoon.
