In 1990 it was able to field two teams, and so was incorporated into the mainstream VAFA competition, commencing in F Section. An earlier incarnation of the Salesian Old Collegians Football Club had competed in the Eastern Suburban Churches Football League during the 1970s, winning a premiership in 1972. Since entering the VAFA Salesian has twice contested senior grand finals. In 1996, in E Section, the side downed Power House by 15 points, a margin that the final scores of 10.17 (77) to 10.2 (62) suggest may well have flattered the losers. Salesian's second grand final appearance came six seasons later in D2 Grade, with Yarra Valley Old Boys providing the opposition, but on this occasion the team had to be satisfied with 2nd place. At least the pain of losing was alleviated to some degree by the awareness that promotion to D1 Section had been achieved. Salesian enjoyed a solid season in 2006, winning 12 of 18 home and away matches to qualify for the D2 finals in 3rd place, only to lose the 1st semi final against Aquinas Old Collegians by 7 points. By contrast, the 2007 season was somewhat disappointing as the side could only manage half a dozen wins for the year, and retained its place in D2 only on percentage. In November 2007 it was announced that the club was entering into a merger with St Mary's. The new club, which would be known as St Mary's-Salesian, would be based at St Mary's home ground at Ferndale Park Reserve, and, in 2008, would occupy Salesian's place in D2 grade. Where now? or
