Silvan Football Club was established in 1921, and competed initially in the Mountain District Football Association. The club qualified for the finals for the first time in 1923, and won its first premiership in 1930 when it overcame minor premier Emerald by a margin of 3 points in the challenge final. A second MDFA flag followed four years later. With the exception of a brief stint in the Yarra Valley Football Association, Silvan continued to compete in the Mountain District Football Association (or League as it became known after World War Two) until the late 1950s. No further premierships were claimed, but the club did contest a B Grade grand final in 1958, losing to South Wantirna by 44 points. Shortly afterwards, Silvan crossed to the Croydon-Ferntree Gully Football League, which in 1962 was renamed the Eastern Districts Football League. Nine years later the club again transferred its registration, this time to Yarra Valley Mountain District Football League, where it continues to compete to this day. Over the last couple of decades the Cats have enjoyed more success than at any other time in their history, winning 2nd division premierships in 1992 and 2002, and 1st division flags in 2004 and last season.
