League's Official Website:  http://www.sfl.net.au/

Formed:  1983, via the merger of the Western Australian Football Association (WAFA) and the South Suburban Football League (SSFL).  The new league's inaugural season was 1984.  Despite its name, since 1989 the league has conducted both Saturday and Sunday competitions.  Clubs playing on Sundays are required to field three teams (seniors, reserves and colts) whereas the Saturday competition only comprises senior teams.  In 2004 the WAFA was reconstituted, under the auspices and control of the Sunday Football League (SuFL), to administer the Saturday competition.
