Tasmania differs from all of Australia's mainland states and territories in that its population is not predominantly based in and around its capital city, but is fairly evenly spread across the island.  As a result, the state's top tier of club football has, for most of the code's history on the island, been distributed across three independent regional competitions, rather than being confined to a single league centered on the state capital.  For the majority of the twentieth century these three regional competitions were the Hobart-based Tasmanian Football League (TFL), the Launceston-based Northern Tasmanian Football Association (NTFA), and the North West Football Union (NWFU), encompassing a northern coastal strip between Latrobe and Wynyard.  Profiles of the majority of the clubs ever to have participated in these three competitions can be found in this section, as can profiles of clubs competing in the more recently formed Southern Football League (SFL), which like the TFL is based around Hobart.

Since 2001, the highest level of Tasmanian club football has not been played in the regional competitions, but by the VFL-based Tassie Devils Football Club.  You will find the profile of the Devils in the VFL/VFA section.  You will find details of Cooee and Burnie Tigers in the Burnie profile, and information about City, City-South and East Launceston in the profile of South Launceston.
