Taylors Lakes began as a junior club, fielding teams at under ten and under twelve levels.  The club first affiliated with the Essendon District Football League in 1991, and within three years it boasted teams in every level of competition from under tens to seniors.

In 2005 the club enjoyed one of its finest seasons to date, with both seniors and reserves qualifying for the B Grade finals, with the reserves eventually reaching the grand final only to lose to Craigieburn.  After that, the 2006 season was something of a disappointment as the seniors managed just 6 wins and the reserves 7, neither of which was remotely good enough for finals qualification.  The seniors failed to qualify for the finals in 2007, too, but they enjoyed a much better season all round, winning 10 of their 16 matches to finish 7th.  The reserves meanwhile produced an excellent home and away campaign only suffer a surprise elimination final defeat at the hands of Westmeadows.
