Between the end of the first world war and the outbreak of the second Torquay participated in a number of different competitions without achieving premiership success. The club disbanded during the war, and did not reform until 1951, when it was admitted to the Geelong and District Football League's third tier competition, which was known at the time as the Jarman Cup.

The Tigers' record during their thirteen season stint in the GDFL was a good one, highlighted by grand final appearances in 1955, 1957 and 1961-2-3. The final three of these grand finals were won, those of 1961 and 1962 in the Jarman Cup, and that of 1963 in the tier above, known as the Woolworth Cup.

After crossing to the Polwarth Football Association in 1964 Torquay made it four grand finals in succession but on this occasion it was one to forget as the side managed just 1.4 (10) for the match in losing to Queenscliff by 64 points.

When the Bellarine Football League was formed in 1971, Torquay was one of nine foundation members and went on to claim the competition's inaugural premiership thanks to an 18.5 (113) to 6.15 (51) grand final mauling of Queenscliff. With the reserves also going top it was an exemplary year all round.

The Tigers' six subsequent senior flags have been claimed at the expense of Drysdale by a solitary point in 1984, Newcomb in 1986 by a league record 111 point margin, Leopold in 1987, Drysdale (1989), Ocean Grove (1998) and Newcomb (2006). Their overall tally of seven senior premierships places them second behind Ocean Grove on the all time BFL list.

Another club highlight was Wayne Tyquin's feat in amassing a league record haul of 120 goals in 1998. Tyquin also topped the ton, and headed the league list, in 1997 and 1999.
