WEEROONA BAY

Current Affiliation:  Whyalla Football League (WFL) since 1970

Formed:  1970

Colours:  Black and gold

Emblem:  Tigers

Senior WFL Premierships:  1985, 1987, 1995-6 (4 total)

Whyalla News Medallists:  Geoff Stam 1981; Stephen Cowan 1996; Russell Sawford 1998-9 (3 Medallists/4 Medals)

Admitted to the WFL's senior competition in 1970, Weeroona Bay first went top in 1985, a year before fellow 1970 inductees Roopena did likewise.  The Tigers were a league power in both the 1980s and '90s, but since winning back to back flags in 1995-6 they have tended to struggle.  In 2006 they won just 6 of their 18 home minor round matches to finish 5th. Since then they have shown measured improvement, and the 2010 season brought a rare grand final appearance. However, it proved to be an eminently forgettable day as opponents Roopena romped home by 94 points, 20.13 (133) to 4.11 (35).
