WESTERNS

Current Affiliation:  South West District Football League (SWDFL) and precursors since 1970

Home Ground:  Alexandra Park

Colours:  Blue and white

Emblem:  'Roos

Senior Premierships:  SWDFL (and precursors) - 1984-5, 1987, 1994, 1997-8-9-2000 (8 total)

Since breaking through for their first senior premiership in 1984 Portland-based Westerns Football Club - the 'Roos - have been the most successful club in the South West District Football League.  Between 1997 and 2000 they claimed four flags in a row, a competition record, giving them a total of eight senior flags in all, also a record (since equalled by Tyrendarra).

In 2006 the 'Roos endured a disappointing end to the season when, after comfortably qualifying for the finals, they bowed out of premiership contention in 'straight sets' at the hands of Tyrendarra and Branxholme-Wallacedale.  Simon Bampfield's achievement in winning the SWDFL's senior best and fairest award - the first Westerns player to be so honoured for thirteen years - afforded a measure of consolation, however.

The 'Roos continued to perform competitively in 2007, and qualified for the finals in 4th place.  However, elimination final opponents Heathmere proved too strong and won a high scoring encounter by 35 points, thereby ending Westerns' season.
