Between 1997 and 2000 they claimed four flags in a row, a competition record, giving them a total of eight senior flags in all, also a record (since equalled by Tyrendarra). In 2006 the 'Roos endured a disappointing end to the season when, after comfortably qualifying for the finals, they bowed out of premiership contention in 'straight sets' at the hands of Tyrendarra and Branxholme-Wallacedale. Simon Bampfield's achievement in winning the SWDFL's senior best and fairest award - the first Westerns player to be so honoured for thirteen years - afforded a measure of consolation, however. The 'Roos continued to perform competitively in 2007, and qualified for the finals in 4th place. However, elimination final opponents Heathmere proved too strong and won a high scoring encounter by 35 points, thereby ending Westerns' season. Where now? or |
