Initially placed in E Grade, the Blues won premierships, and hence promotion, in both 1999 and 2000. They then contested three consecutive C Grade grand finals, only to lose on each occasion. However, the WAAFL saw these achievements as meriting promotion, so that for season 2004, just five years after their genesis, the Blues lined up in B Grade. After a season of consolidation in 2004, Willetton improved sufficiently in 2005 to contest the B Grade finals, ultimately finishing 4th. However, a disappointing 2006 season produced just 3 wins from 18 matches, consigning the side to 9th place in the 10 team competition, and relegation to C Grade for season 2007. That 2007 season saw the Blues bounce back in highly impressive fashion, topping the ladder with a 14-2 record before comfortably defeating Melville in both the 2nd semi final and grand final to clinch their first ever C Grade flag.
