In 2005, Wyong Lakes Australian Football celebrated its thirtieth anniversary.  The club was established in 1975, and was a founder member the following year of the Central Coast Australian Football League.  Although the Magpies as they are known have yet to claim a senior premiership their importance as a club is readily exemplified by their feat in regularly recruiting sufficient players to participate in nine different levels of football from Auskick through to seniors.  Given that the Hunter region is perhaps among the least football-friendly parts of Australia this is no mean achievement.

In 2006, the Magpies seniors endured a disappointing year, finishing last with just 2 wins from 18 matches, but the reserves and under eighteens both gave evidence of promise for the future.

The 2007 season was altogether more heartening as the Magpies managed 4 wins for the year to climb off the bottom rung of the ladder. This was followed by a highly promising 2008 campaign which yielded 7 wins and saw the side comfortably holding down a mid-table position.
